Outstanding Superintendent Award

Robert C. Smith, (center) was recently awarded the 2007 Outstanding
Superintendent Award by the Pa. Music Educators Association at the annual
statewide conference in Hershey. Smith was nominated by the
Northern Potter music faculty (left to right) Kevin Roessner HS vocal, Lindsey
Jackson HS instrumental, Darlene Sitler elem. vocal and instrumental, and
Deborah Galley, retired HS vocal. The award commended
Smith for demonstrating his active, continued support for an outstanding and
well balanced music program in the Northern Potter School District.
Highlighted in the teachers' letters of recommendation were Smith's
attitude and philosophy that music be maintained as an integral part of the
school curriculum K-12; his sensitivity to the unique requirements of music
education in terms of space, staffing, scheduling, equipment, and financial
support; his endorsement of opportunities for staff development and continuing
education; his leadership in providing opportunities for community and school
board support for music; and the proven results of music program growth and
improvement under his administration. PMEA Pres. Chuck Neidhardt remarked
that the PMEA Executive Board was "delighted to recognize such a deserving
rural school district administrator." Galley and Sitler were also recognized for
25 years of teaching music at the All State Band Concert.
